Dear Students,
Applications from students wishing to temporarily suspend their studies are evaluated in accordance with Article 27 (“Leave of Absence”) of the University’s Regulations for Education, Examination and Success.
Applications must be submitted to the Registrar’s Office, specifying the semester for which leave is requested and the reason for the request, together with supporting documentation. Grounds such as medical reasons, military service, the death of a family member, severe financial hardship preventing the continuation of studies, or natural disasters are subject to evaluation by the relevant University authorities.
Submitting an application does not constitute approval. Students whose applications are approved will be designated as inactive in the Student Information System for the duration of their approved leave, in accordance with applicable legislation.
Applications are evaluated based on the reasons and supporting documents submitted.
The University will not process military service deferments for male students subject to compulsory military service during semesters in which their studies are suspended. Students concerned must apply in person to the Military Recruitment Office (ASAL Şube), providing the relevant reasons and supporting documents. Approval and the duration of any deferment are determined by the competent military authorities.
Applications are evaluated in accordance with the University’s regulations and the applicable rules and decisions of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK).
Under YÖK regulations, students may suspend their studies for a maximum of two consecutive semesters and a total of four semesters throughout their studies.
In cases of force majeure, such as serious health conditions, military service obligations, the death of a family member, severe financial hardship, or natural disasters, requests exceeding four semesters may be considered by the relevant authorities under Article 27 of the University’s Regulations for Education, Examination and Success. Such requests must be supported by appropriate documents or official reports.
Applications are evaluated in accordance with Article 27 (“Leave of Absence”) of the University’s Regulations for Education, Examination and Success.
Students must verify their current legal residence status in the TRNC before submitting an application.
For citizens of the Republic of Türkiye and international students, approval of a leave of absence does not grant the right to remain in the TRNC.
Students planning to remain in the TRNC during their approved leave must consult the relevant immigration authorities to confirm whether they have another valid basis for residence or qualify for an exemption. Students are responsible for completing all necessary immigration procedures within the required deadlines.
All students are strongly advised to submit their applications within the deadlines specified in the academic calendar.
Before applying, students should consult the Registrar’s Office regarding the implications of a leave of absence for tuition fees, scholarships, military service obligations, and residence status.
